National Volunteer Week 2019

This week is National Volunteer Week!

From June 16 – 22 Hospice West Auckland will celebrate the contribution of 500 dedicated volunteers who collectively donate 40,000 hours to our cause each year.

The support of our volunteers ensures we can continue to deliver the best possible care to terminally ill patients and their families throughout the West.

This year’s theme is “Whiria te tangata – weaving the people together”. Volunteering, Mahi Aroha and social action weave people and communities together. Along these lines, our volunteers are woven into every area of our organisation.

This National Volunteer Week we celebrate the diversity of our volunteers and all the ways they gift their time to support our services.

One of Hospice West Auckland’s dedicated volunteers Elie shares “I’ve met so many amazing people, and I get to give something special back to my community, I just love it.”

Not wanting to miss out on all the fun, Elie's husband John followed. John has the specialised job of testing our electrical products in numerous stores, as well as the medical equipment run which allows him to interact with patients and family members.

Thank you, Elie and John, for your energy, compassion, and your continued commitment over the years.

If you, like Elie and John, want to get involved and give back to your local community, come along to our Volunteer Open Day at Hospice House, 52 Beach Road, Te Atatu Peninsula on Friday 12 July between the hours of 10.00am - 6.00pm.

Please contact our Volunteer Services Co-ordinator Verity on 027 702 3648 to discuss.
