Bucket list experiences help patients and families celebrate living every moment
A day of speeding around the Hampton Downs race track in high performance racing cars, Harley Davidsons, big trucks and a helicopter was an experience of a lifetime for four Hospice West Auckland patients and their families.
This year was the 10th Anniversary Race Day for Race4Life – an annual event dedicated to providing terminally ill patients and their caregivers a thrilling day of ‘Bucket List’ experiences. Guests were greeted by an army of Race4Life volunteers, each receiving a memento t-shirt and safety briefing, before an adventure-filled day zooming around the track, eating hot roast lunches, enjoying massages and meeting Kiwi legends like Greg Murphy.
For Hospice West Auckland Social Care Coordinator, Patricia Gosper, the event is a wonderful example of how the community works together to make dreams come true and for patients to live every moment.
“We appreciate the great Kiwis who give so selflessly to make this all happen. Everyone walks around with big smiles on their faces and it’s a great day outside for our patients.”
