End of year He Karanga Pae: Calling a Circle

He Karanga Pae – Calling a Circle offers individuals grieving the opportunity to attend to their grief through engaging in a memorialising process. It is open to anyone in the community who is grieving a loss (new or one from years before), individuals wanting to attend need only to come to the Living and Learning Centre at the time of He Karanga Pae.

The space will be open for some special full day (10am to 3pm), end of year remembrance sessions, no booking necessary, on:

  • Friday 23 December 2016

  • Friday 30 December 2016

  • Friday 6 January 2017

At the Living and Learning Centre: 206 Swanson Road, Henderson.

He Karanga Pae is a process; a wall; a collaborative art work that continues with each person’s contribution to it. It is an engagement with the conversations on the wall, held in the contributions of art and creativity provided by those that attend to it.

It is a creative space and opportunity, a time offered to anyone who wants to remember someone they have loved and lost. Through the creative endeavour of writing, drawing, painting and wax work individuals are offered materials (and each person can contribute their own too) to spend time with one of the Hospice West Auckland staff to create a woven string about a person they miss and grieve.

The project first began as a project for artist Tiffany Singh whilst on her Colin McCann residency in 2013/2014. Tiffany gifted this original project to Hospice West Auckland with thanks to the generous support of the creative communities scheme as an ongoing partnership between the artist and the hospice therapeutic arts program, it is hoped that this wall will provide a social practice platform of service to the hospice community.
