An Absolutely Fabulous Success
Saturday 1 August saw the Te Atatu Peninsula Community Centre literally taken over by the Absolutely Fabulous Fashion Show, in what was a wonderful night of upcycled Fashion, Auctions and Entertainment.
The charity fundraiser, which featured designer fashion sourced from donations to the legendary Hospice West Auckland Op Shops, was hosted by celebrity MC Michele A'Court, who had the audience heartily laughing throughout the evening.
Featuring well-known faces on the catwalk such as Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse, Shortland Street actress Grace Palmer, radio personality Dom Harvey and past Hospice West Auckland Chair and Auckland Councillor Linda Cooper, the runway also included key supporter Chrissie Douglas, local West Auckland butcher Ivan Mansell, two young models Georgia and Lucca from Red11 Model Management and two of our lovely volunteers Lisa Tait and Elie van Vugt - as well as four Hospice West Auckland staff members; Spiritual Care Coordinator David Nuualiitia, Palliative Medicine Specialist Moira Camilleri, Social Worker Tanya Suin and Clinical Nurse Specialist Charlotte George.
The evening included a bustling 'Designer Clothes Sale' that took place before and after the fashion show, as well as throughout the intermission, where keen shoppers managed to get their hands on key items from the catwalk. Also during the intermission, the crowd were entertained by the lovely sounds of songstress Juliagrace, while they bidded up a storm on a great selection of Silent Auction items.
Toward the end of the evening, special items that had been donated to the cause were auctioned off live to the highest bidder by Michelle Maitland of George Walker Auctions. The selected garments had been donated by well-known personalities Samantha Hayes, Te Radar, Dame Rosie Horton, Nanogirl and Judy Bailey and were well received by the audience - with Michele A'Court making an hilarous feast of Te Radar's 501 shorts as she managed to put them on under her dress on stage.
The stellar efforts of the night led to a total of $40,000 being raised for Hospice West Auckland, which will assist us in providing specialist palliative care and support at no charge to patients and families living with terminal and life-limiting illness.
